Simulation of New Thin Film Zn(O,S)/CIGS Solar Cell with Bandgap Grading

Abstract Copper-Indium-Gallium-diSelenide (CIGS) thin film solar cell is a promising candidate for energy harvesting because of its high absorption coefficient and low cost compared to silicon-based cells. Absorber layer bandgap grading suitable method improve CIGS performance. Bandgap leads the decrease recombination rate at rear surface, which increases open circuit voltage. Furthermore, improves short current due enhancement collection probability. This paper introduces various routes improving performance cells by using grading. As first step, both thickness absorber uniform profile are optimized get best Simulation performed SCAPS software optimization results show that with 1.2 eV 0.7 µm achieves 22.48% efficiency. Then, parabolic distribution profiles investigated compared. It found double profile, combination front back grading, an efficiency up 24.16% achieved. improvement obtained gallium composition ratio 0.1 minimal 0.13 from contact contact, respectively. result represents 7.47% baseline structure cell.
